The aim of this project was to promote the right and access to health including sexual health in the Mzimba District where sexual behaviour and lack of access to youth-friendly health clinics has led to high risk of HIV contagion as well as unwanted pregnancies. In this project, C:NTACT worked together with the largest local organisation THAO in Malawi together with the Danish organization Sex og Samfund (CSS) who specialises in sexual and reproductive health promotion and education, HIV/AIDS prevention and policy advocacy.
This project sought to combine the different expertise and competences of these organisations to develop efficient and appropriate strategies and intervention to promote sexual health for young people in Mzimba District. This project aimed to explore the potential of theatre as a method for youth health promotion and social normative change in the local context.
The theatre workshop brought the personal stories of 27 young people on stage. There was a screening Mzimba District for the local audience as well representatives from tribes and other organisations working with the same issue. Here very proud young people told their personal stories on stage. The message was positive and optimictic and the focus was on discussing the issue to be able to change it, even though it was at times difficult for the elder crowd to hear about the stories within the context.
