THE MARKETPLACE OF STORIES is a C:NTACT production and came to be in cooperation with the Phenix Center for Economic and Informatics Studies and The National Centre for Culture and Arts (NCCA). The project was funded by Oxfam IBIS under the Danish-Arab Partnership Programme.
On the stage you will meet 18 courageous and strong women Kerak and Madaba. They invite you to listen to the stories of their own lives, of challenges and successes of being working women, of their hopes and dreams for their lives and their futures.
At the Marketplace of Stories you will learn about paths toward economic independence and in breaking free of societal structures and pressures that attempt to limit women in their daily lives.
These are stories of love of art and crafts, love of children and sources of inspiration.
Sometimes bad things happen in life but we discover that they are new opportunities, an open door. My husband was in an accident. He was not able to work for an entire year, and our financial situation became increasingly difficult. This situation made him deaf to the gossip of people. Due to this my adventure as an self-employed woman started.”

This performance will give the audience an important insight unto the role of women in the Jordanian society and economic life. The women aim to spark a debate on how to support these women and others who find themselves in similar positions.
Each performance is followed by a Q&A where the audience is invited to ask the women questions and learn more about the paths they have taken in life.
